Considered a favorite time trial course by hill climbing enthusiasts, the Airport Hill Cardiac Ride will certainly get your heart pumping. Beginning at Historic Depot Square, ascend to the top of 11th Street/Harrison Drive. The gentle ascent will provide a 5 minute warm up period and begin the flow of blood. At the top of the hill, Harrison Drive widens to a four-lane road with reduced shoulder widths. As vehicle speeds increase to 30 mph plus, remain alert to potential hazards including vehicles entering and exiting the roadway. From Harrison Drive, turn right at Wasatch Drive and proceed approximately 1.25 miles to Airport Road. Your heart stress test begins as you pass over the railroad tracks. As you begin to climb, keep in mind that your pulse rate should not exceed 200 beats per minute unless you are a professional rider conditioned to perform in races such as the Tour de France or the High Uintas Classic Stage Race. If you manage to reach the top of Airport Road, congratulations, you have climbed approximately 400 vertical feet in 2 miles. As you catch your breath and regain your composure, your effort is rewarded with a beautiful view of the north slopes of the High Uinta Mountains. A cool down period to gradually reduce your pulse rate is provided with the return trip to Depot Square.
