Bald Mountain Pass Ride

The starting point for this beautiful and windy ride is Depot Square.  Proceed east on Front Street.  You will go past McDonald’s and Arby’s.  There will be a slight uphill past Arby’s and Front Street will turn into Scenic Byway 150.  At this point in the ride there will be four lanes of traffic.  About a mile past the bowling alley, on your left side, it narrows into two lanes of traffic with a generous shoulder.  Please be aware that there is an abundance of gravel on the shoulder since there is rock quarry along this route.  As you past the rock quarry there is a slight downhill and you will go over the Bear River.  Please note that once you get past the bridge the shoulder has rumble bars.  The rumble bars are apparent for about five miles.  You will see a turn off for Sulfur Creek Reservoir but stay on the Scenic Byway.  Approximately two miles past Sulfur Creek the generous shoulder disappears.  The remainder of the journey is on two lane highway with no shoulder.  Please be very cautious at this point.  There can be considerable traffic on the highway as the High Uintas are the playground for southwestern Wyoming.  Once the road narrows this is known as the Hilliard Flats.  It appears very long and flat as this small community lies in the foothills of the Uintas.  You will see the McGraw Fire Station and follow the road as it gently turns to the right.  At this point in the ride pick your head up, as you will get a spectacular view of the Uintas.  The road straightens and the curves back to the left.  You will pass the Utah State line and you are merely five miles away from the finish of your ride.  Your journey will end down a tree lined highway and the Bear River Lodge will be on the right side.  Congratulations.
